Dedication Introduction Table of Contents
Dedicated to my parents
Looking back, the past resembles a vast puzzle, its once complete face now blurred by missing pieces. A few years ago, I discovered a cardboard box containing my deceased grandparent’s possessions. I sifted through countless piles of crumbling paper and fading photographs wondering about their lives. I knew all of my grandparents before they passed away, but did I know their stories? Regardless of age, sex, nationality, wealth or religion stories sum up our lives. Some stories describe disappointment, while others showcase success. Some stories allow us to laugh, while others cause us to cry. Digging deeper into my grandparent’s box, I studied every scrap of paper for more information. Why hadn’t they written something down about themselves and who were all the people in these old photos? I wanted to know more, but they were gone. I started using the box, relatives and my own memories to piece together their lives. Then a thought occurred to me - what about my stories? Written stories carry the unique and powerful stamp of the author’s personality. I’ve spent years writing and rewriting these pages to produce a truthful account of my life during this existence. By sharing my stories I weave my own colorful thread into the fabric of family history. The worst writer writing achieves far more than the best writer talking. I now present this glimpse into my life and challenge all my readers to do the same. Take care and God bless, Steven Michael Selig
