Designing
Your Pages
When your writing is complete, the next step is to decide
how you want your pages to appear. The following are ideas of items to consider. A Style Sheet
will help you maintain consistency throughout the book. And consistency
creates a professional-looking book.

1. Font to use for text:
2. Size of type (font size) to use on text:
3. Font to use for Headings:
4. Size of type (font size) to use for Headings:
4a. How many blank lines between Headings and beginning of text:
5. If using a paragraph indent, what size to use:
6. If italics are used to "style"
— where to use them:
7. Double or single-indent quoted material:
7a. Right justify quoted material:
7b. Blank line above and/or below quoted material:
8. If story shifts to a different time or place within a chapter, what
will I use to signal the reader:
9. Nicknames spelling list:
10. Full name spelling lists:
11. Change double hyphens to a short or long dash:
12. Use Search attribute to make sure only 1 space between words and 1
space between sentences:
13. Use Search attribute to check for misspellings of names. Input 3-4
letters of the name and Search.
14. Where will page numbers be placed:
14a. What font for page numbers:
14b. What point size for page numbers:
When you think
you have the pages positioned exactly where you want them, use either the thumbnail attribute to
view them as "facing" pages and print those to review OR print a manuscript and staple
the pages back to back like a book would be. This is your last verification that a printed and
bound book will have pages where you want them.
There are other items to add to your Style Sheet. When you make a
decision about something that applies on more than one page, write it on your style sheet as
a reference.
