EDITING HELP
We offer this service if
you need it.
Because you work with the
same material day after day, you may be missing errors. Every time you see your
material in a different format, you will see things you have been
missing. Copy the file with the stories and create a new file in your computer
and make the pages a different size and print them. Don't do this with your
original file because it will create underlying codes that can cause difficulty
later. But with these newly sized pages, you will read and catch errors. Then go back to
your original file and make correction.
And it is helpful to take
your pages and sit in a different room or outdoors and read them there. Why?
Because it takes your brain away from the usual setting of writing and
proofreading and it has to "shift" its thinking. The "shift" is what you are
looking for.
To avoid having to pay for
corrections after your Book Proof is in your hands, have someone new go over it
carefully now.
You likely know people who
can help you with this. Ask a detailed-oriented person and perhaps someone who
is unfamiliar with the stories. They are likely to see areas where more info is
needed to explain what you are trying to put across.
And they are likely to see
things you have missed. One good way to proof is to read a page from bottom to
top, sentence by sentence so you are less likely to get pulled into the story. Proofreaders need to
be detached from the emotion of the story.
There are times when
you wish to write about a sensitive subject and you are not sure how it will
come across to the reader. We are quite willing to give you our opinion and, if
you wish, suggest a little different wording.
