I told someone in 1997 that I had been an FBI informant and heard their
response, "So, what were you trying to catch?"
Good question. And my reply, "Oh, nothing." That
exchange makes all of life sound so simple, but this book does not recount a
simple life.
Most readers today cannot remember when problems of national
security dominated daily news and when adherents to foreign philosophies of
government worked night and day imposing communism on peoples in other lands.
They do not understand using America’s freedom of speech to promote acceptance
of foreign philosophies into American government.
Getting and reporting this information is called intelligence
work. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was assigned responsibility for
intelligence work that protected national security. Being born and raised in
Utah and transplanted to downtown Los Angeles through upheavals of WWII, I first
learned of intelligence work by doing it. It is a necessary part of war; never
spoken of in a hot war, and wrongly assumed unnecessary in a cold war.
The goodly parents who raised me never knew of this work, or
that they were teaching me to care enough to do it. No one else knew either for
confidential work is just that, confidential.
